The Gallery
“Maritsa Travlos – Ceramics & Sculpture” is a constantly evolving art space. A showroom for the artist’s recent work, including sculpture and ornamental objects made exclusively from colored porcelain high-fired at 1250-1280°C.
Located in downtown Athens, the gallery is a whimsical habitat for the colorful creatures of Maritsa Travlos’ imagination: shoals of fish, giant sea urchins, mischievous frogs, all painted in vivid hues derived from natural ingredients. The colors vary depending on the temperature at which the clay is fired, making each handmade piece subtly different.
Her compositions are always arranged in rows, depicting a delicate world of similar objects, none of them identical. These delicate creations bring to life a sense of constant motion and evolution, a sense of eternity. From underwater scenes to floating installations, serving platters and sculptural lights, every unique work of art is a celebration of the beauty of nature and the joy of life.
Maritsa Travlos has exhibited her work at the Benaki Museum (2017), the Hellenic American Union (2021) and more. She has collaborated with several artists and designers, such as Zeus + Dione.
